Costal cartilage has plenty of positive aspects; but on the other hand it's a major surgerical operation it leaves a scar by the chest and it warping can occur. However warping can only happen to unskilled surgeons. If it's carved following "Gibson's principle" and with experience one learn to avoid warping.
The picture shows the first costal cartilage that I harvested when I didn't know much about it and didn't consider the warping. When I used it it was a disaster. I guess failing makes you learn and be more careful.
Now it takes me 10 minutes to harvest the costal cartilage and I can confidently use it shaping as I like. 7th rib is the best cartilage since it leaves less scar and it's long and thick providing more safety compared to the rest of the ribs.

가슴연골은 여러가지로 좋은 재료이나 수술이 크고 가슴에 흉이 남으며 휨(warping)이 발생할 수 있다는 단점이 있습니다.

그러나 휨은 경험이 없는 의사에게 발생합니다(?). Gibson.s principle이라는 법칙이 있어 거기에 맞추어 조각하면 큰 문제가 없으며 경험이 많아지면 휘어짐에 효과적으로 대처하는 방법을 알게됩니다.

사진은 제가 처음 사용하려고 빼낸 가슴연골로써 잘 모르던 당시에 휨을 염두에 두지않고 그냥 사용하여 혼이 난적이 있습니다. 실패가 가장 큰 선생이 아닌가 싶습니다.

지금은 10분이면 빼내서 자유자재로 가공하여 사용하며 모양도 잘 내고(?^^) 있습니다.

가슴연골은 7번이 가장 좋습니다. 가장 길고 두껍고 안전하며 흉도 적습니다.
