Reducing the width of nasal dorsum is often understood as grinding the nasal bone. However the thickness of nasal bond is only 2 mm. Even when you grind the whole nasal bone you only reduce 2mm. Of course you cannot grind the whole nasal bone and 2mm of reduction doesn't make any difference. Therefore to reduce the width of dorsum it should be fractured.
