Costal cartilage is one of the best autologus grafts. However there are negative aspects of it as well. It's a major surgical operation and a scar is left by the rib. Warping can also occur at 3-5%. Nevertheless if the nose is lifted over 7mm high or there is no other way after several unsuccessful surgeries the patient had before then it's the best one to use. This patient had his nose lifted up 1.2cm high with a costal cartilage.
If a foreign graft is inserted to lift up a lot the skin gets thin and transparent making the graft visible and opening possibilities to complications.
