Rib cartilage is a hyanline cartilage like the septal cartilage so it's sufficient to construct a septal cartilage with it. Therefore the rib cartilage is used to reconstruct the septal cartilage.
If the nose is augmented when there is no septal cartilage the nose won't get augmented but will rather sink down.
