Donated rib comes from volunteers who have passed on. They are screened for infectious diseases and their ribs are harvested post mortem. These ribs are irradiated to remove all DNA, viruses and bacteria and are then packed in a sterile fashion for future use.
Autologous (self) cartilage is preferred in the tip. But rib can be used for other grafts like dorsal augmentation grafts and extended spreader grafts.
